May 27th 2010 in Our lady and St.Illtyd, 5 young people received the Sacrament of Confirmation from Archbishop Peter Smith. Helen, Kate, Josh, Matthew and Sam had spent months preparing for this day, refreshing their understanding of the Gospel message and learning of the work of the Holy Spirit.
They made on their own behalf the promises made by their parents and godparents at their baptism, so becoming responsible members of the church community. Anointing them with chrism, the Archbishop conferred on them a new gift of the Holy Spirit, giving them the power to live lives of faith. We pray for them that they will grow in faith and love and knowledge of God.
It was a warm and lively Mass with excellent singing and large numbers of family and friends of the confirmees. It was followed by an excellent buffet in the parish centre, prepared by the Ladies Guild and the candidates’ parents, and much enjoyed by everyone. It was a wonderful opportunity to wish Archbishop Peter well in his future ministry. This Confirmation was his last official engagement as Archbishop of Cardiff, and he leaves to be installed as Archbishop of Southwark.
